Welcome to Until The End. We are a moderate Harry Potter role-playing site set in the Marauder's Era. Our plot is generally derived from details in the book, but as an AU site we do take liberties most anywhere we like. Those who died in the books can have a second chance at living, and those who lived are always at risk.
Tom Marvolo Riddle has long since disappeared and in his stead Lord Voldemort has risen, bringing a small army with him. The Ministry of Magic has thus far ignored the growing menace that is the Death Eaters and Albus Dumbledore has taken it upon himself to defend the wizarding community from an evil he knows is building. War is coming. Pick a side!

Albino Peacock Lucius is unable to produce a patronus - the one time he had been able to was conjuring the memory of feeling his daughter's kick for the first time.

Lucius is a complicated man. The burden of being the Malfoy patriarch was set upon him at a young age and he learned his duties and expectations early in life. His father was a tyrannical asshat who was never satisfied except with himself. He voiced his disapproval and disappointment loudly and often, but Lucius has learned to disregard most of it. That being said, a therapist would say he secretly yearns for his father's approval.
Narcissa is quite possibly the most important person in Lucius' life. Though it's out of fashion to be so enamored with one's wife, Lucius doesn't care. She's the one person who sees him for who he is, and inspires him to be better, but they are in a difficult place now after the loss of their daughter.
Lucius has also gone through a bit of a metamorphosis with his own grief and his wife's unhappiness. Where they had started their marriage with hope, the repeated losses have taken its toll on their marriage and Lucius' own sense of worth.
History
The marriage between Abraxas and Celestia had been arranged, and was most definitely not a love match. While the pair got along well enough, they led completely different lives. It was amazing they stayed in the same room long enough to produce the heir to the Malfoy fortune, and due to their discomfort about one another, Lucius would be the only product of their union. But Lucius was enough.
In addition to being born with a platinum spoon in his mouth, he was also gifted with intelligence and a handsome face. From an early age Lucius developed ahead of the curve when it came walking, talking, and so on and when he began displaying magical talent, his parents hired the best tutors. As expected he attended Hogwarts at the age of eleven, and was predictably sorted into Slytherin. He excelled in nearly everything he put his hands on, becoming a prefect, and even earning a coveted spot in Slughorn's Slug Club.
But not everything in Lucius' world was perfect, it only appeared that way.
Abraxas was demanding and demeaning on a good day, but on the bad days he could be brutal and cruel. Nothing was good enough. Initially Lucius tried to please his father by excelling in school and thriving in their society, but as time went on he turned to acting out and purposefully rebelling in small ways to thwart the old man. The only decision that even somewhat pleased Abraxas was Lucius choosing Narcissa to be his wife; it was also the only thing Abraxas and Lucius agreed on.
Though Abraxas had wanted an arranged marriage when Narcissa graduated, Lucius wanted to court his wife and see if she were genuinely interested in him or if her interest was in pleasing their respective parents. After they began formally courting Lucius seemed to unwind. His attempts to provoke his father became less and less, and his focus turned toward his future with Narcissa. She made him happy. He felt free for the first time in his life, and he knew that with her at his side they could conquer the world - his father be damned.
And for a while, it truly seemed like Lucius had found happiness. Abraxas and Celestia gifted Malfoy Manor to the happy couple on their wedding day. It was an easy transition as Celestia hadn't lived there in years, and Abraxas preferred to spend most of his time with his mistress in Wales. With his father's absence and Narcissa's presence, Lucius thrived.
Malfoy's holdings were strong and the investment strategies Lucius employed panned out well for the family. Abraxas was supposedly content to take a backseat as the family patriarch and allow his son to take the reins. Lucius was married to the most gorgeous creature on God's green earth, and she truly loved and supported him. The light of his life was also pregnant with their first of many children to come. It was an idyllic time suddenly foiled by the happy couple's first loss. Then the second. And the most painful - Carina.
Each miscarriage carried the weight of disappointment and despair, but losing Carina had been beyond devastating. Narcissa had been far enough along that her body had changed and Lucius had been able to feel the life inside her. The sudden loss of hope and happiness began to drive a wedge between the happy couple. Lucius still loved his wife more than anything, but the pressure of procreation on top of the pain of each failure was a heavy burden on their marriage. He still wanted children with his wife, but he didn't want her suffering any longer. Unfortunately his confusion and depression caused him to pull away.
Another blow came when Abraxas suddenly took up residence once again at Malfoy Manor. He wasn't too forthcoming with his reasoning, but Lucius suspected it had something to do with the Minister's sudden departure from office of which his father had been very vocal about. He didn't pretend to know his father's agenda, but he kept an eye on the man's actions and whereabouts. This was made easier with Abraxas' moving back home, but life was made infinitely more difficult.
Lucius was able to keep his father from saying anything disparaging to Narcissa, but he was not spared the man's censure and disapproval for not producing an heir. It was a particularly sore subject and Abraxas was skilled at laying salt over Lucius' wounds.
These days he's simply trying to keep the wheels turning and the family taken care of, but he's falling apart inside.
