Welcome to Until The End. We are a moderate Harry Potter role-playing site set in the Marauder's Era. Our plot is generally derived from details in the book, but as an AU site we do take liberties most anywhere we like. Those who died in the books can have a second chance at living, and those who lived are always at risk.

Nik is a complicated man with a dark history. He is motivated by his love for the very few people he allows into his heart. There is no depth he will not sink to and no mountain he will not rise to when it comes to taking care of his friends. He's lost too much in his short life and knows how to value what he has. On the other hand he has no patience or pity for those who do not value what they have, which can lead to friction and misunderstanding. He's skeptical, practical, resourceful, and cunning.
October 10th, 1951 - Gaius Malfoy and Cardea Everhart are wed in a large ceremony. Even the Minister appears to wish the couple well. It is a proper pureblood union, but it is also a love match.
September 15th, 1954 - The Malfoys welcome their first child into the world - Nicholas Evander Malfoy. Named after an ancestor who lived in the 14th century (the old Nicholas Malfoy would dispatch muggle tenants under the guise of the Black Death.)
October 31st, 1958 - The Malfoys are celebrating Samhain with Nik's "uncle" (Gaius' best mate) Aedan Sayre. Nadya Sayre (Aedan's wife), goes into labor a month early.
November 1st, 1958 - Emara Samain Sayre (Sam) is born. Nik is the 3rd person - after the healer and Aedan - to hold baby Emara. Nik loves her as much as a four year old can love another. A warmth spreads in his small chest as Aedan tells Nik that he trusts him to protect Emara. Aedan and Gaius conspire (like little old women) to betroth their children to one another.
December 5th, 1959 - Cardea discovers she's pregnant again. The healer recommends termination - as Nik's birth was incredibly difficult - and another birth could jeopardize Cardea's life. Cardea refuses both the Healer's advice and her husband's insistence. She is determined to carry her second child - Vanessa (as she was hoping for a girl) - to term.
June 7th, 1960 - After 48 hours of grueling labor, Vanessa Verity Malfoy is born. Cardea barely touches her child's fingertips before going unconscious.
June 8th, 1960 - 12 hours after Vanessa is born, Cardea dies of complications. Healers were unable to detect the placental abruption prior to Vanessa's birth and by the time they discovered it and administered the blood replenishing potions - it was too late.
Aedan hears Gauis yelling and leaves Emara with Nik (and a nanny of course) to see to his friend. He is in time to prevent Gaius from strangling one of the healers who had attempted to hand Gaius his child.
July 10th, 1960 - Nik attends his mother's funeral. He shares his father's hatred of his sister who took his mother away.
Aedan sees that Gaius' behavior is damaging to the children and removes them to his estate to give his friend time to grieve.
September 15th, 1960 - Gaius comes for Nik. He's visited in the past, but was unhinged enough to accept that Aedan see to his children. He is not prepared to take his daughter just yet.
March 2nd, 1961 - Gaius brings Vanessa home at Nadya's insistence.
September 1st, 1966 - Nik is accepted into Hogwarts. He is sorted into Slytherin like his father and "uncle" Aedan.
December 25th, 1966 - The Malfoys and the Sayres celebrate Christmas together. Their last happy time as a "family".
July 8th, 1967 - Nik, Emara, and Vanessa discover Gaius and Nadya shagging in one of the guest bedrooms of their summer cabin. Emara runs off and tells her father before Nadya can stop her. Aedan is furious and sends Emara home. Words are said, fists are thrown.
July 20th, 1967 - Aedan files for divorce. Emara cries to Nik that they'll never see each other anymore. Nik is devastated and takes his anger out on Vanessa. He blames her for their mother's death. If she had never been born, his mother would be alive, his father would not have gone to Emara's mother, they would not be divorcing and he would not be losing Emara. He tells her that she is the reason he loses everything and everyone he loves.
Vanessa is heartbroken and runs away.
July 30th 1967- Ten days after his sister's disappearance, witnesses come forward stating that they had seen the groundskeeper carry Vanessa away. He cannot be found either and the Auror department suspects foul play.
August 14th 1967 - The groundskeeper's body is discovered. Vanessa is presumed dead as well.
December 25th 1967 - Nik refuses to go home for Christmas break, there are too many sad memories. He is overwhelmed with guilt and shame for the things he said to his sister before she disappeared. He blames himself for his sister's death and cannot face his father. Instead he turns to Aedan to confess his sins.
The divorce isn't going well between Nadya and himself. Aedan fears losing custody of Emara. Aedan tries to absolve Nik of his guilt (he was just a boy and upset at things beyond his control) by asking Nik to keep an eye on Emara for him. Nik eagerly vows to be his eyes and ears and protect Emara at all costs. He's only thirteen, and Aedan does not intend to put that kind of pressure on the boy, but he is happy to relieve Nik of some of his guilt.
June 7th, 1968 – Gaius drinks himself off a ledge at the Malfoy estates. It is unclear whether the death was accidental or suicide. Aedan becomes Nik’s legal guardian as requested in Gaius’ will.
July 1st, 1968 – The long and bloody divorce comes to an end. Aedan loses everything – he still has money, his name, properties, etc – but Nadya retains custody of Emara. They move half way across Europe to Nadya’s family in Bulgaria. Aedan is devastated. Nik is sincere in his offer to watch over Emara. He begs Aedan to send him to Durmstrang as he knows that is where Emara will be sent eventually.
September 1st, 1968 – Durmstrang is far different than Hogwarts. He begins learning the dark arts as opposed to the defense of the dark arts.
September 1st, 1970 – Emara joins him at the Durmstrang institute. He watches over her from a distance.
September 15th, 1971 – Nik is of age and inherits his father’s estate. Nadya approaches him about the betrothal contract his father intended between him and Emara. She wants to secure her daughter’s (and therefore her own) position in society by making sure the families will merge as expected. Nik is reluctant to sign. Emara is a child (only 12), they couldn’t possibly know if they would suit one another in a marriage. He wants Emara to be happy. He is also dating someone.
June 1st, 1973 – Aedan Sayre dies. Nik is bereft, as is the entire Sayre family. Aedan’s will is read, Emara stands to inherit upon her marriage, until then, his brother Seamus shall manage the estate on her behalf. Nadya approaches Nik once more about the marriage contract. Nik agrees when Nadya threatens to betroth her to someone else. Nadya brings Emara to the Sayre estate and makes plans to transfer her to Hogwarts. She wants to keep an eye on Seamus. Emara is devastated by her father’s death. Nik promises her that he will always be there for her.
September 1st, 1973 - Emara transfers to Hogwarts. Nik visits on the weekends.
Summer 1974 - Nik spends more time with Emara at the Sayre estate. He gets to know Emara's friend/project (with Emara he's never sure) Lyra. Emara plans Lyra's come out ball, but Nik is wary of Lyra's relationship with Emara, Julian, and later Mason. She does eventually win him over, but it is an uphill battle and Nik is a bit of a cad.
Lyra's carriage is attacked by a masked rider. Nik protects Lyra, and they grow marginally closer. It's disconcerting to him that the attacker meant to harm Emara.
Fall 1974 - Emara returns to Hogwarts for her 5th year. Nik gets to know Lyra more intimately. They bond over various things, though they got off to a rough start. Nik is there for her when no one else is, and she becomes one of his closest friends.
Winter 1974 - Nik begins training Lyra on self defense. A lesson is misconstrued by Julian who in turn stages his own romantic scene with another woman. Lyra is devastated and nearly dies after turning to her cutting habit. Nik threatens Julian to leave Lyra alone. Julian leaves town and Nik tries to pick up the pieces.
Spring 1975 - Nik's feelings for Lyra begin to change, or rather they snuck up on him suddenly. Her tunnel vision where Julian is concerned causes some friction and Nik has to leave. He returns after discovering that another student, Rafe Colby, has been stalking Emara. She was reluctant to share any details about it, but the attacks escalated to violence. In a tragic turn of events Rafe died. The circumstances surrounding his death are vague, but Emara held a vigil for him. Nik is back home to stay to protect the women he left behind.
