Welcome to Until The End. We are a moderate Harry Potter role-playing site set in the Marauder's Era. Our plot is generally derived from details in the book, but as an AU site we do take liberties most anywhere we like. Those who died in the books can have a second chance at living, and those who lived are always at risk.
Tom Marvolo Riddle has long since disappeared and in his stead Lord Voldemort has risen, bringing a small army with him. The Ministry of Magic has thus far ignored the growing menace that is the Death Eaters and Albus Dumbledore has taken it upon himself to defend the wizarding community from an evil he knows is building. War is coming. Pick a side!

After bidding his three best friends farewell with the promise of an owl-sent-letter soon, James leaned against his trolley with a sort of casual arrogance, checking his watch, pretending to ignore the gaggle of third year ((soon to be fourth)) gryffindor girls nudging each other as they passed with their parents, though he did reach up with one hand and ruffle his already tousled jet-black hair before glancing back down at his watch. His parents would be arriving soon enough but there was still one person he'd yet to say goodbye too and he was hoping she might wander by before he needed to leave. Lilly Evans.
It wasn't like he would be able to see a whole lot of her during the break what with her being a muggle and living in a muggle village and James being pureblood, living in the thick of wizarding communities. So this right here seemed as good of an opportunity to spend some more time with her as any.
Still, even though she still adamantly refused to date him, and frequently even insulted him for some of his behavior at school, there was just something about her he couldn't shake, even if he tried.
It was the best of times and it was the worst of times.

Lily Evans
Lily picked her way along the platform, weaving her way in and out of the crowds with a nod every now and again to someone that she recognised. A faint smile still lingered on her lips, the memory of her conversation with Christine still fresh in her mind- she loved spending time with the older girl. They were different, yes, but that was why she liked her Housemate so much; she was a breath of fresh air. Sometimes, though, she did wonder how the House system really worked. How could there be so many different types of people, all grouped together? For instance, she was quite different to Christine, and she was VERY different to...
Oh, sweet Merlin. The redhead's smile faded, and she took a deep breath. There he was. James bloody Potter in all his smirking glory, showing off to a group of giggling girls who would have to put up with the sharp edge of Lily's tongue in September, because Potter certainly didn't need any encouragement. She looked for a way out, but nothing presented itself, and she sighed. Well, here she went... Fixing her eyes on a point on the platform wall, the Lioness began to walk straight past the boy who'd plagued her for the last four years.

The red hair was hard to miss.
Lowering his watch-bearing wrist back to his side and nodding farewell to the lingering giggling girls who left with their parents looking a bit put out, James waited until she was about even with him, her eyes staring fixedly upon the barrier of Platform 9 & 3/4, before calling out. "Hey Evans!"
And then, because he wasn't sure if she would stop or not, given their past history, he started wheeling his trolley after her, determined to at least get five minutes of conversation out of her.
Though obviously he was hoping for more than that.
It was the best of times and it was the worst of times.

Lily Evans
Lily paused briefly, involuntarily, at the sound of her name being called, but as soon as she worked out who the voice belonged to, which didn't' take her long at all, she started walking again. It had all been going so well... She'd had a great day, she'd made some fun plans for the summer; she was ending on a high and now James bloody Potter had to come and ruin it all by putting her in a bad mood. And he did put her in a bad mood, there was no doubt about that- her smile had faded and warped, morphing into something closer to a scowl.

"Oi, Evans, wait up!" James put on a burst of speed and wheeled his trolley around so that he was facing her, blocking her path, a roguish, charming grin inhabiting his features. "What's your rush" he wondered, reaching up to rake one hand through his untidy hair just by reflex and habit.
Her expression was anything but pleased to see him, but James didn't let that bother him. He was somewhat immune to criticism or insults, most of them just bouncing right off of him.
"I just wanted to wish you a good summer" he added, following up his question without leaving her much time for response. "And to see if you were going to the Solstice Festival?"
It was obviously not required to attend the festival, nor to bring a date, but he would definitely be doing the first.

Lily Evans
"Oh, I don't know," Lily retorted, leaning against the handle of her own trolley as she settled in to what she could already tell was going to turn into an argument. How could she tell? Well, that was because it happened whenever she ended up having a conversation with Potter, because he was a stupid arrogant jerk and she was... well, she was the kind of person who would just love to stick a pin into Potter's big overinflated head. "Maybe I want to go home. Maybe I want to get there without having to spend five minutes listening to you talking about how amazing you are in between." She shrugged. "Take your pick."
The redhead raised a disbelieving eyebrow at his explanation for his presence- yeah, right. Maybe he would wish her a good summer, but one thing was for certain- he wouldn't stop at that. "Yes, I am. With Christine." Well, sort of, anyway.

"Oh come on Evans" he chuckled when she spewed off a whole host of reasons why she was rushing to avoid him, most of them having to do with his ego. "I won't say a word about myself, how's that?" He'd never so much as hexed her or said a single bad thing about her. In fact, he said nothing but good things constantly. Yet she still refused to give him the time of day. And he knew a lot of that centered around his treatment of her best friend. Why he had to fall for the best friend of old Snivellus was beyond him.
When Lily mentioned their fellow Gryffindor Christine being her companion to the Solstice Festival, James inclined his head, pleased that she'd be there at least. "Maybe you and I could hang out there too" he suggested with another one of his charming smiles that seemed to leave the whole of most female students at Hogwarts breathless.
It was the best of times and it was the worst of times.

"Unbelievable," she retorted shortly. In the literal sense of the word. She simply could not bring herself to picture a conversation with James Potter in which the aforementioned was not the main topic of discussion. It just simply wasn't going to happen. In all honesty, she didn't believe that it was possible for Potter to go without talking about himself for five minutes at a time. Maybe his head just ended up so overinflated that it exploded... which would certainly be interesting to watch. If perhaps not at quite such close quarters...
Lily put her head on one side, regarding the boy before her with disbelief. How could he possibly think that there was any chance of her agreeing to that? She managed to sum up her feelings in four short words, spoken with a great deal of feeling: "In your dreams, Potter." Sweet Merlin, she would probably go insane spending a whole day in his company.

Of course, "in your dreams" was actually a quite literal representation of how he spent most of his time with Lily Evans, especially this last year when his feelings for her had deepened past just a passing crush, but he refrained from saying this out loud, which was probably a first for him. Thinking something through before saying it.
Instead, he exhaled slowly through his still in place smile. "Come on, Evans, just for a little bit" he wheedled. "One hour. I promise, you'll have fun." His expressive hazel eyes danced behind a pair of slightly crooked glasses. Of course, he'd have fun too, but he'd promised not to talk about himself.
Which was proving more difficult than he'd thought it would.
It was the best of times and it was the worst of times.

Lily sighed, resting one hand on her hip as she examined the boy in front of her and, try as she might, she couldn't pick out the slightest hint of cockiness anywhere on his face, which was by way of being a first. Honestly, she didn't know what it was that made the boy so determined to make her life harder. He could have had more or less any other girl in Hogwarts within five minutes; why the hell did he persist in failing to chat her up? It was just one of those things, she supposed, but that didn't make it any less annoying.
"Fifteen minutes, Potter," she told him firmly, surprised at herself for agreeing to even that much. "Now, can I go home or are you going to inflict your company on me for a bit longer?"
Post by James Henry Potter on Jul 22, 2018 16:02:50 GMT -8
Had any manner of light breezes come by at that moment, James probably would have been knocked flat. He was absolutely floored by the fact she'd just agreed to even fifteen minutes of spending time with him at the festival. It seemed as though not being as cocky as he usually behaved was actually working. Imagine that.
When Lily wondered somewhat irritably if she was allowed to leave yet, James took the handle of her trolley in an attempt at gentlemanly behavior and offered, "let me at least walk you through the platform into the station."
With any luck, Petunia and Mr. and Mrs. Evans wouldn't be there yet.
It was the best of times and it was the worst of times.

"I'm perfectly capable of walking down a platform by myself, Potter," Lily pointed out, although her tone lacked some of the impatience which it usually held when she was dealing with this particular Housemate. He was trying to be chivalrous, she could tell, and while he wasn't doing particularly well at it, she supposed that the effort was, well... sweet. Although of course he was still James Potter, and therefore still arrogant, stuck-up, big-headed... and a number of other things which she would be loath to repeat in polite company. "Thanks all the same." And then she realised... She couldn't go anywhere. He had hold of her luggage.
Post by James Henry Potter on Jul 24, 2018 19:44:41 GMT -8
"I didn't say you couldn't" James argued, a hint of impatience creeping into his tone now. He'd kept to his word, he hadn't been bragging or boasting about himself non-stop, he hadn't even...verbally...insulted her best friend during this particular conversation. And here he was attempting to be a gentleman instead of a big-headed jerk as she often referred to him, and she wasn't letting him.
Then, when she looked from his hand holding onto her luggage up to his face and back again, clearly making the wordless point that she'd like her trolley back so she could get out of there, he stalled, throwing out the first question that sprang to mind. "So...who do you think the new Gryffindor Prefects will be this year?" Granted, it was literally the first day of summer break and that decision wouldn't be made for months, but it was all he could think of at the moment. So he was back to saying things without thinking them through entirely first.
It was the best of times and it was the worst of times.

"You implied it!" Lily retorted sharply, and then bit her tongue hard, ashamed of herself. There were times when the fire in her hair bled over into her brain, and the redhead knew that she shouldn't give in to her temper but sometimes she really could not resist it. Particularly in the company of James Potter, because the boy just seemed to rub her up the wrong way. And no, that was very definitely not any kind of an innuendo. No way, no how, Lily just wasn't interested, and definitely not where Potter was concerned.
She shrugged at his question- how on earth should she know? "Remus, probably," she answered shortly. "Why? Trying to work out who you need to bribe this time?" It was silly, of course- if it was going to be Remus then he'd have no need to bribe anyone. Such a ridiculous state of affairs, but of course Potter always had run rings around the rest of the world. She wouldn't mind so much if he wasn't so arrogant about it.

“Well, Mo” he began, well on his way to agreeing “Moony would be the best possible choice for prefect” given that he and Sirius could easily keep up their prankster ways without getting busted. But he realized in the nick of time he’d been about to use his nickname for Remus rather than his actual name, he and the other two non-werewolf Maurauders well on their way to completing their unregistered Animagus training so they’d come up with aliases. But they rarely used those names in public, mostly when it was just the four of them. So he eased into completing his sentence with, -“re than likely, Remus would be the best choice.”
He smiled at Lily, hazel eyes sparkling. “I think you’d make a good prefect too, Evans.” Granted, there was no way she would be as inclined to turn her head to his and Sirius’ pranks as much as Remus would.
