Welcome to Until The End. We are a moderate Harry Potter role-playing site set in the Marauder's Era. Our plot is generally derived from details in the book, but as an AU site we do take liberties most anywhere we like. Those who died in the books can have a second chance at living, and those who lived are always at risk.
Tom Marvolo Riddle has long since disappeared and in his stead Lord Voldemort has risen, bringing a small army with him. The Ministry of Magic has thus far ignored the growing menace that is the Death Eaters and Albus Dumbledore has taken it upon himself to defend the wizarding community from an evil he knows is building. War is coming. Pick a side!

James Potter, according to Lily Evans, was many things. He was an idiot. He was bigheaded. He was foolhardy, and irresponsible, and many other things. The redhead had quite a list of his failings. There was, however, one thing which she had never claimed about him, partly because it had never occurred to her to do so, and partly because it would have been a patently ridiculous view to air in any case- and Lily made a point of never being ridiculous. She had never once claimed that he was unattractive. Of course, she had said on multiple occasions that he wasn't nearly as attractive as he thought he was, but that was a different problem. Perhaps it was for this reason that the girl's cheeks took on a faintly pink hue as he smiled at her. "Oh, you do, do you?" The redhead took in a deep breath. "Well, Potter, looks like you're going to be spending more time than ever in detention."

It couldn't be called a full on blush, and he was well schooled in those, having seen one on the faces of most girls he tried to charm, but the fact that Lily had turned even the slightest shade of pink when he smiled at her was cause for internal celebration in James' mind. If she truly despised him as much as she claimed to all the time, that wouldn't have happened. So there was some cause for hope there.
When she commented about his stints in detention increasing if she were chosen prefect, his mouth twitched. "I'm sorry, Evans, have you not met me?" He was hardly bothered by the amount he spent in detention. As far as he was concerned, it was just like an extra class called "hanging out with Sirius".
They just happened to have to do a little work at the same time.

"Unfortunately, I can't really claim that, can I?" the redhead returned drily. Actually, she rather hoped that she would be made a prefect. Quite apart from the fact that she rather liked badges, she really wanted to be able to help her younger Housemates with their problems when she returned in September, and being a prefect would obviously be the easiest and simplest way in which to achieve that. Plus, of course, it meant that she would have a greater ability to keep her classmates in order and, where Potter and his gang were concerned, that could only ever be a positive.
Folding her arms firmly across her chest, Lily eyed the dark-haired boy in front of her. "So, can I have my luggage back or not?" she enquired, with a hint of threat. Admittedly, she wasn't quite sure what she would actually do, but she was sure that she'd think of something.

"I think you'd be at least a tiny bit sad if you could" James returned when the feisty redhead claimed her inability to be able to say she'd never met him. "I mean, then you'd never get to expand your insult vocabulary." He raised a brow, as if challenging her to deny this. When it came to him, Lily Evans had a whole host of jabs to throw his way at the drop of a hat. And as she was generally nice to everybody, as proven by her continued friendship with Snivellus, he rather suspected she didn't just go around insulting everybody to practice, but merely saved those especially for him.
When she demanded her luggage back, James rolled his eyes. She seemed to be trying to convey some kind of threat with her question, as though if he didn't return her trolley handle this very second, she'd take it back by force or something. "Relax, Evans, I'm not holding it hostage" he insisted, despite the fact that he hadn't actually let go of the thing yet. "You could take it back if you really wanted to."

Lily rolled her vivid green eyes dramatically. "Oh, believe me, the sacrifice is well worth making," she retorted, slim fingers tapping irritably against her legs. Merlin, what was it about the boy that got to her so much? She genuinely didn't know. Usually, the redhead was a very patient girl; she'd spent hours in tutoring some of her younger Housemates without so much as a sigh. But James Potter seemed to irritate her on a subliminal level and without even trying- all that he had to do was walk into a room and she was instantly gritting her teeth, attempting not to shout at him. It wasn't logical. And Lily hated things that weren't logical.
She narrowed her eyes. "Potter, I am not in the mood. You are going to give it back, and you are going to do it now." Lily was well aware of what the boy was trying to get her to do, and she wanted none of it. She was going no closer to him than she was now, and even that was too close for her liking.

James almost laughed out loud at her demand/threat. She sounded like she meant it, but for some reason, he just couldn't take her seriously on that front. Perhaps it was his confidence in his dueling skills, one of the best at the school, at least in his opinion. Or maybe it was knowing that they were out of school and she, the perfect student, wouldn't risk doing illegal magic. Either way, he knew that whatever she meant by her threat was not going to result in magic, which meant hand-to-hand. Which was plenty ok with him.
"What if I don't want to" he challenged, hazel eyes sparkling with amusement. Somewhere in the back of his head, his voice of reason -- which never tended to surface for very long -- was pointing out that he was acting like an idiot again and that refusing to give her her trolley back had left the realm of flirting and was drifting into the realm of bullying.
It was the best of times and it was the worst of times.

"Then maybe I'll have to make you!" the redhead returned hotly, not stopping to think about the logic or feasibility of her words. Of course she had no means whatsoever by which she could possibly force James Potter to do anything that he didn't want to do. Admittedly, she probably had an edge on him magically speaking, but the fact was that she was no longer at school, and therefore the only resources which she had at her disposal were those which would be used by Muggles. Namely, her own physical abilities which, while being by no means inadequate, were almost certainly no match at all for those possessed by her opponent. So... this could be tricky.

James actually did laugh this time but quickly stifled it, trying to compose his expression to one that took her threat seriously. "Uh-huh..." He nodded a few times, mouth twitching. "So make me then."
Tensing slightly, he prepared for whatever she might do, whether it be illegal magic, which he doubted, or hand-to-hand, which he also doubted, but that didn't leave any other options.
He wasn't entirely sure what he was expecting here, but he was sure interested to see what happened next.

OK. So, she really should have seen that coming. From... some time last year. At least. But no, here she was, and now she was going to have to do something, be it ever so pitiful, otherwise she was going to end up as even more of a laughing stock than she most likely would anyway. It was probably about time that she got on to Houston.
The redhead's fingers twitched towards her wand, but she restrained herself; she really had no interest in being thrown out of school for breaching some Act or other. Not now, when she'd come so far. For a moment, she stood indecisive, and then she took a step forwards and slapped him in the face.

The slap hadn’t actually hurt of course, but he was floored she’d done something as hot-tempered as her hair color suggested.
For a moment, he was completely shell-shocked into silence, but then a passing soon-to-be-6th-Year Slytherin jeering, “nice hit Mudblood”, woke him up. Lily had enough problems, he reminded himself, flinging a dirty look after the departing verbal abuser. She didn’t need to be dealing with stupid, petty things like him refusing to hand over something that belonged to her, not him.
“Here.” He relinquished his hold on her trolley’s handle without a second’s thought, genuine regret lining his face. “Sorry, Ev…” He reconsidered halfway through the commonplace use of her surname, hazel eyes sincere.

For a second or two, Lily stood immobile, her eyes fixed on the face of the boy in front of her but not actually focusing on him. What on earth had she just done? Well, obviously she knew that, it was by way of being a rhetorical question, but why? The redhead liked to think that she had excellent control over herself, and up to now she had believed that to be more or less true, but now... Well, now she was just going to have to think again, wasn't she? Idly, she curled the fingers of the offending hand. She could feel her palm tingling slightly.
She barely even noticed the Slytherin who passed her- insults like that were water off a duck's back to her by now, and it was hardly the most imaginative that she'd received; not by a long stretch. Although it had to be admitted that she was somewhat shellshocked by the dark-haired boy's actions. He'd apologised.
Well, there was a first time for everything.
She nodded cautiously as she took back the trolley from the boy. "Thanks... James."

Hearing her call him James was a nice change of pace from Potter, but it was also weird.
He lifted one hand to the base of his neck, scratching absently as a somewhat awkward silence descended. They weren’t used to such a polite, friendly exchange. Where did you take the conversation now??
It was then that James realized just how long they’d been standing there and that every other Hogwarts student had clearered out, leaving them alone with just a few train workers. The Evans and Petinia as well as his parents were more than likely on the other side of the platform, waiting for their children. Well, sister, in Petunia’s case.
James lowered his hand. “Well...see you around...” His mouth twitched subtly. “Evans.”

Lily was not inclined to be nice to James Potter. Partly because he'd never exactly been the king of kindness to her, and partly because the boy seemed to be able to get on her nerves just by entering a room. It was a knack which was really rather disturbing. Generally, the redhead prided herself on her patience, but then there was only so much that could reasonably be expected of the average girl, and while Lily might be far from average in many respects, she was no superhuman. Nothing like being on Professor Dumbledore's level, for one thing.
"I expect so," she agreed, with a muted sigh, and, at long last, she walked through the barrier and out into the hubbub of the Muggle platforms.
